PILOTO: Valentino Rossi "Peace" (Barry Sheene Tribute)
ANO: 2003
EQUIPE: Honda
AUTOR: Frank Aguiar
DESCRIÇÃO: Valentino Rossi came out for testing with a bright rainbow helmet design by Aldo Drudi that contained two messages. The helmet featured all the colours of the rainbow, and had the word ‘PACE’ in large white letters on the back. ‘Pace’ is Italian for ‘Peace’, and the design was used to voice Rossi’s opposition to the invasion on Iraq, a subject that was dominating the news. The helmet also had the ‘number 7′ on either side as a tribute to Barry Sheene who had died of cancer just before the testing session. All the teams and riders conducted a minute’s silence in memory of the former 500cc World Champion.

Helmet Style 2 - MotoGP

PILOTO: Valentino Rossi "Yamaha 50th Anniversary - Laguna Seca"
ANO: 2005
EQUIPE: Yamaha
AUTOR: Frank Aguiar
DESCRIÇÃO: Laguna Seca also marked the first time in the 2005 MotoGP season that Yamaha raced without any sponsorship on the bikes from their team-sponsor Gauloises. The reason behind this change was to celebrate Yamaha’s 50th birthday; Yamaha Motors was founded on July 1st 1955, so the Laguna Seca round was only a few days after the official birthday. To mark the occasion Rossi and Edwards raced in retro American Yellow and Black Molly graphics to acknowledge the contributions and achievements that American riders, such as Kenny Roberts, Wayne Rainey, and Eddie Lawson, had made to Yamaha’s history. Roberts used to race in similar livery in the 1970s. Rossi’s helmet design for the race was a simple, but bold graphic based around the sun and the moon and maintained the Yellow and Black colour scheme consistent with the rest of the Yamaha 50th Year Celebration livery.

PILOTO: Valentino Rossi "‘The Doctor’ or ‘Il Laureato’- Mugello"
ANO: 2005
EQUIPE: Yamaha
AUTOR: Frank Aguiar
DESCRIÇÃO: Rossi also made the news by wearing a special helmet for the race to celebrate him becoming a genuine, real Doctor. Earlier in the same week, Rossi was awarded the “láurea ad honorem” in communications and publicity by his hometown University in Urbino. University Rector Carlo Bo, Giovanni Bogliolo made the presentation to Rossi citing it was a special award for the positive influence that he had set as a role model, and also in recognition of his achievements as a rider. The helmet design was in a cartoon style and featured Rossi on the top of the helmet holding his doctorate, with the caption ‘Valentino dottore per davvero’ (translated as: “Valentino, truly doctor”).

PILOTO: Valentino Rossi "Sun and Moon Helmet" - Sun Side
ANO: 1997
EQUIPE: Aprilia
AUTOR: Frank Aguiar
DESCRIÇÃO: Valentino Rossi had ended in 9th place in his forts 125cc Grand Prix season, but in 1997 he managed to dominate the track taking 11 wins and securing the 125cc World Championship Title. Rossi’s wins in 1997 came at Malaysia, Spain, Italy, France, Holland, Imola, Germany, Brazil, Great Britain, Catalunya, and Indonesia. In 1997 Rossi mosstly ran with his helmet design from 1996, the Aldo Drudi design Suna and Moon motif. It would be in the later years that Rossi would choose to vary his helmet designs multiple times in a single season.

PILOTO: Valentino Rossi "Gothic Helmet (Yellow)" - Sun Side
ANO: 2007
EQUIPE: Yamaha
AUTOR: Frank Aguiar
DESCRIÇÃO: One of Valentino Rossi’s most used helmet designs during the 2006 and 2007 seasons of MotoGP was the Aldo Drudi designed AGV Gothic helmet. The Gothic design is a simple, bold, and striking paint job that heavily features Rossi’s two most popular recurring themes - the Sun, and the Moon. Some of Rossi’s more superstitious fans have suggested that the Gothic design represents bad luck for Rossi due to the helmets coincidence with Nicky Hayden’s championship win in 2006, and Casey Stomer’s in 2007.

PILOTO: Valentino Rossi "Faces"
ANO: 2010
EQUIPE: Yamaha
AUTOR: Frank Aguiar
DESCRIÇÃO: After the terrible accident at Mugello, they said that Vale would be out for nearly five months, but the Doctor amazed everyone and was back on the bike at Sachsenring, finishing an incredible fourth!

At Laguna Seca, the next round, Vale knew a special way to thank all those who had helped and supported him.

The Faces helmet is a tribute to all these friends. Designed by world famous Aldo Drudi, the Faces include Graziano (Vales father) his best friend Uccio, team manager Davide Brivio, crew chief Jerry Burgess. Famous friends like Italian musicians Jovanotti, Cesare Cremonini, and Vasco Rossi, Inter Milan football star Marco Materazzi, famous comedian Poalo Cevoli and last but by no means least Vales two dogs Cesare and Cecilia!

PILOTO: Valentino Rossi "Austin Powers / Flower Power Helmet (Valencia 2003)"
ANO: 2010
EQUIPE: Yamaha
AUTOR: Frank Aguiar
DESCRIÇÃO: The final race of the MotoGP season in 2003 was held in Spain at Valencia, and it was also Rossi’s last ever race as a Honda rider. Rossi would move to Yamaha for the 2004 season, but that was not yet announced. Rossi dominated and won the race ahead of Sete Gibernau and Loris Capirossi, and managed to do it in a unique style with a flower power helmet and bike livery (also referred to as the ‘Austin Powers’ design). The livery was chosen after Repsol ran a competition with Spanish motorcycle magazine, Motociclismo, where readers had to create a design for the bike and rider that also included the Repsol name. Repsol Honda and Valentino Rossi chose the winner from he shortlist.

The helmet design was covered in flowers and featured a small sun and moon under the visor towards the front of the helmet. The left and right sides of the helmet had ‘Valentino’ in 1960′s style text runnig along the base, with the word ‘Rossi’ runing along the top of the helmet. The back featured the number 46. The would be the last helmet that Rossi would wear on a Honda. In line with the 1960′s / flower power theme, Rossi took to the podium wearing a huge afro wig.
